- Really Listen, Don’t Just Wait to Talk. Focus on understanding the other person, not on planning your reply.
- Think Before You Speak. A short pause can help you express yourself more clearly and kindly.
- Use “I” Statements. Say how you feel rather than blaming (“I feel hurt” vs. “You hurt me”).
- Stay Calm, Even When It’s Hard. Deep breathing can help you respond with clarity instead of reacting emotionally.
- Watch Your Body Language. Smile, keep an open posture, and maintain friendly eye contact — it speaks louder than words.
- Ask Questions to Show You Care. Genuine curiosity (“How did that make you feel?”) strengthens any relationship.
